Although obviously a much higher profile event, the birth of a British princess wasn't the only thing happening today ;-) I actually spent this afternoon feasting my eyes on a LOT of Dutch fashion, all packed together in the Rotterdam Theater during the Mode Marché.

As I don't have a Valentine to spoil, I couldn't resist getting an early birthday present for Vashti and Taiyo (they will be turning 3 on 16 and 22 February) in the form of this awesome tank from Suck UK. Suck UK creates unique gifts, accessories and items for the home, and I think their collection for pets is just too cute! They also offer a variety of other 'human inspired' condos and scratchers.

Winter wardrobe musthave: the pastel coat

11/10/2014

Sometimes you encounter a coat, that is just perfect in every way... And the Duchess of Cambridge has a particular knack for finding those. I totally fell in love with the Black Watch tartan one by Alexander McQueen, and then again with the dark green 'Angel' coat from Reiss. And now she's done it again, with this gorgeous baby blue coat by Matthew Williamson (btw, she has been wearing baby blue two times in a row now, is she trying to tell us something? ;-) ). It just looks so comfy and chic at the same time!

Looking at Kate's gorgeous coat reminded me that a pastel coat is at the top of my WWW (Winter Wardrobe Wishlist), and it should be on yours as well. I mean, seriously, how much brighter would those dark winter days be if everyone wore soft pinks, greens and blues instead of black, grey and navy?! Below you can find a few of my favourites available at the moment (several of them are available in other colours as well).

So, what if your approach to winter pastels? Absolute yay, or a no-go?

P.S. If you are looking for a good RepliKate of Kate's blue Matthew Williamson coat, ASOS has one that is very similar. A custom made one from the Tatiana's Delights Etsy shop is of course also possible. In that case, be sure to send me a message via Etsy regarding a custom listing!

8 great products for the fashionable cat lady

Happy Friday everyone! Great plans for the weekend? For me it is working on my new 'walk-in closet' again, and - of course - studying (as ever). In both instances I expect to be getting a lot of help from my feline housemates Vashti and Taiyo.

As a self-confessed Crazy Cat Lady, I obviously love products that feature cats, but sometimes it is hard to find cute things that are quirky and fun, among all the cat-stuff that is stuffy, and sometimes downright psychotic. Luckily, cats are hot at the moment. Thanks to the internet and Taylor Swift (the Queen Bee of all crazy cat ladies), it is totally 'fetch' to expose your inner Crazy Cat Lady. To make it easier to do so I thought I'd share my current favorites. I am very much coveting number 8! Wish I had some occasion to wear it to. Maybe there is an annual Crazy Cat Lady Convention somewhere?

Brilliant Brand: Massimo Dutti (My Fall Favourite!)

I feel like I have been living under a rock, that it took me until now to come across the fashion diamond that is Massimo Dutti! While browsing Pinterest I saw this amazing leather bag, when I clicked on it I was redirected to the Massimo Dutti website.... and now I'm smitten.
Picture
The bag that started it all

For those of you who are as unaware of Massimo Dutti as I was: contrary to what the Italian name suggests, Massimo Dutti is a Spanish brand, owned by the Inditex Group (which also owns brands like Zara, Oysho and Bershka). Originally a brand for menswear, in later years it also added womenswear (in 1992) and children's wear (in 2003) to its repertoire. By now, Massimo Dutti has over 731 stores in more than 71 countries. Although these are mostly located in Europe and Asia, people from the US, Canada, Mexico, and several European countries have the opportunity to shop the collections online at massimodutti.com.

Massimo Dutti mostly offers good quality at a reasonable price (considering what you get). With approximately US$ 40 for a leather belt or US$ 300 for a large leather tote, the brand is somewhere in-between Zara and Reiss prise-wise. But what I love the most about Massimo Dutti are the designs of all their garments! A combination of equestrian, preppy and classic, this totally suits my style, and the items are very suitable for both work and dressy casual!

Below are my 10 favourite items from their Fall Collection. How about you? Do you like the brand? Have you purchased anything from Massimo Dutti in the past? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Happy 1st Birthday, George!

Hip, hip, hooray! I wish you a very happy 1st birthday, little Prince George! (My God, that year went by fast!)
Picture
It is always so lovely to see how inquisitive children can be! I feel that for parents it is really important to always stimulate their children's natural curiosity. William and Kate's choice to go to the Sensational Butterfly exhibit is really great in that aspect. I was always that child that kept asking "Why?... But why?.... But why?", which can be very annoying for any parent, I'm sure :-P But my parents always tried to answer me anyway. That way I knew it is always good to keep asking questions and never take anything for granted. Keep exploring, George!

As for the fashion in the photos: Kate wore her green 'Budding Heart Silk Tea Dress' (including baby spit on her shoulder, how cute :-P) by Suzannah (US $ 810) and her Kiki McDonough '18ct Yellow Gold and Diamond Hoops' (US$ 850)  and Annoushka 'Pearl drops' (US $ 505) combination earrings.

I must say, that 'Budding Heart' dress by is really starting to grow on me. I didn't like it at first, but actually it is one of those rare dresses that looks flattering on pretty much EVERYONE, so below are a few replikate options.

Sì sì! Sicily! Appopriate airport apparel

7/5/2014

My, my! We all do a lot of flying these days! So much so, that the 'airport outfit' is very much a thing. The thing to keep in mind though is that when traveling it is much more about being comfortable, than being fashionable. The perfect airport outfit combines both. But where to start?
Picture
  • Kate often opts for dark skinny jeans when traveling, and no wonder! They are stylish, and a dark wash makes any stains less noticeable. Go for a stretchy pair, like these from H&M, to assure a comfortable fit.
  • When you are making your way through the airport, you might not want to have to worry about anyone noticing your muffin top. In that case a loose fitted, comfortable top is a winner! Kate favours breton tops, like this one from Zara.
  • You might be hot from that sprint to the gate, or be freezing from the plane airco, so my no. 1 tip when it comes to traveling is: layering. That's why I prefer the top + stylish lightweight jacket combination. Why not go for this bright red one from Mango? Makes you easy to spot for your traveling companions!
  • Kate sometimes chooses a pair of heels, but that's something I will most definitely not be replikating! Whether it is a pair of ballerina flats, loafers, deck shoes, or plimsolls, like these navy ones from Mint Velvet, you can be very stylish in comfortable shoes, without risking painful feet.
  • I would actually feel naked if I wouldn't wear a scarf when traveling. Scarves dress up every outfit, so you never know when it might come in handy. They're also useful as sarongs, cushions and cover-ups when visiting a place of worship. My ideal travel scarf is printed, big and as light as a feather, so you can't really go wrong with this Beulah scarf.
  • You obviously want to bring some stuff with you into the cabin, but the size of your hand luggage of course depends on whether or not you're checking in a suitcase as well. If you are, my tip is to keep the hand luggage to a minimum. In that case I prefer a medium size leather bag with removable, adjustable shoulder strap, like this one from Mango. And why not buy this matching belt as well? I hate having to lift up my jeans every time I stand up again, so I always wear a belt when traveling.
  • You might want to cover up that jetlag with a nice, dark pair of sunglasses, like these from Dorothy Perkins.
  • Keep it simple in the jewellery department, but don't forget it entirely! A watch will be handy to make sure you arrive at the gate in time. This two-toned one from Armitron can be combined with both silver and gold jewellery, so that's very practical. As for earrings, I always opt for small dangle earrings, like these from the Tatiana's Delights Etsy shop, because studs can be irritating by piercing the skin behind your ear when you're trying to rest your head for a while.
  • Bring your earphones, so you can listing to music on your smart phone. Don't forget to put it on 'airplane mode'!
  • Having a few hours to fill during your flight gives you the perfect opportunity to catch up on some reading. And for heaven's sake: don't forget your passport and boarding pass!
Well, I'm off to Sicily for a few days, so expect some traveling posts the coming week!
